Planning Concepts
As the Task Force moves from information gathering to solution development, a range of planning concepts are under exploration. These concepts address the complex needs of the SR 710 stub corridor, which spans dense residential neighborhoods, educational institutions, industrial zones, and transit lines. Planning efforts focus on how best to reconnect the region through multimodal transportation infrastructure, unlock land for affordable housing and open space, and support sustainable water and environmental practices. All concepts are grounded in community priorities and technical feasibility, with attention to funding, jurisdictional alignment, and long-term maintenance. This section will present evolving ideas, visual renderings, and proposed improvements that reflect the collaborative vision emerging from the Task Force process.
Transportation Ideas:
Early proposals include:
-
Protected bike lanes and pedestrian pathways
-
Boulevard conversion of the freeway stub
-
Multimodal linkages to LA Metro, Metrolink, and Cal State LA
-
Improved rail corridor crossings, such as an underpass or bridge near Lowell Avenue
Housing and Open Space Options:
-
Development of affordable and student housing to meet local demand and reduce displacement
-
Creation of greenbelts on underutilized land
-
Integration with Cal State LA’s Facilities Master Plan for housing, connectivity, and sustainability
